Akathist of Thanksgiving
Shout with jubilation unto God, all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness. Come before His presence with rejoicing. Know ye that the Lord Himself is our God; it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, into His courts with hymns; give thanks unto Him. Praise His name, for the Lord is good; His mercy endureth for ever, and His truth unto generation and generation. — From the 99th Psalm
Next Wednesday, November 23, at 6:00 p.m. we will sing the Akathist called “Glory to God for All Things.”
This Akathist is also known as the Akathist of Thanksgiving. A copy of this hymn was among the belongings of Father Grigori Petrov, who died in a Soviet prison camp in 1940, and has been sometimes attributed to him. The title is from the words of Saint John Chrysostom as he was dying in exile.
