Food bank

canned goodsA food bank is being organized, to help poor, hungry and needy families in our parish and our community.

Justin Chantel writes,

I would like to ask each of you to consider donating either canned and nonperishable food, or money so we can purchase items in bulk and break them down into portion sizes for families.

To get this off the ground I would like to raise $300 to $500 to fill in any gaps after the initial food drive. I will be placing a large box downstairs at church for you to drop off food items, or if you would like to designate funds please do so by check to the church, designated Food bank.

Below are some items needed:

  • Oatmeal, other hot cereals such as Cream of Wheat, bulk rolled grains etc.
  • Powdered or canned milk
  • Coffee (instant or grounds), Cocoa mix, sugar, honey
  • Muffin mix (boxes of cornmeal muffin mix is great because it’s versatile), Baking Mix (such Bisquick) or Pancake Mix
  • Dehydrated potato flakes – since we can’t store fresh potatoes, boxed mashed potatoes round out a dinner well
  • Gravy mixes or seasoning packets (such as Bullion Cubes, Taco Seasoning packets
  • Dried Fruit (especially raisins)
  • Dried Beans (with a recipe for veggie or meat chili – goes a long ways and is good source of protein)
  • Rice (with directions depending on what type we receive)
  • Canned items; tuna, vegetables, fruit, olives, pickles, juices, tomatoes and tomato sauces – especially, jams, jellies, peanut butter, soups
  • Non food items – toilet paper, soap, gallon ziplock bags

Look for the large donation boxes downstairs at the church, or you can write a check and designate it Food Bank.
